My name is Carolee Dean and I write novels for young adults. You can read more about my novel, COMFORT, by going to amazon.com and typing in my name. If you type in the book title you get all sorts of weird listings for comfort foods, etc. I don't know why.
I was born and raised in Southern California but I graduated from a tiny high school in Happy, Texas--population 673. How I ended up there is a very long story but it was a lot of the inspiration behind my book. Like the main character, Kenny, I participated in the poetry interpretation competitions through the Texas (UIL) University Interscholasatic League. The scholarship I received through the UIL made it possible for me to be the first person in my family to attend college.
I received a bachelor of music therapy degree from West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas and a Master of Science Degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of New Mexico. I currently live in Albuquerque where I work as a Speech-Language Pathologist at one of the local middle schools. I've worked with kids of all ages, but primarily teens--mostly through the public schools but I've also worked at a psychiatric hospital and a head trauma rehabilitation center. I use music and poetry whenever I can as I beleive that there is a very strong connection between the creative arts and the healing arts.
